Buying an Electric Guitar

Additional checks if purchasing Electric Guitar

If you are buying an electric guitar you of course need to check the electrics for buzzes, crackles, clicks etc and that the pickups, pickup selector, tone and volume controls, and output jack socket actually work.

Crackles and pops could be just a sign off dirt or dust in the pots (potentiometers, the tone and volume controls), or pickup selector switch or could be something more serious like wear. The prior can be resolved by using electronic contact spray available from an electronics retailer like Radio Shack or Maplin, but the latter will probably require replacement of worn parts. If in doubt get the seller to resolve before you part with your cash.

Check the bridges on electric guitars to ensure all screws and bridge saddles are present and undamaged.
